Returning reader and show favorite Tess Lennon-Dorn is performing with us on Sunday!
Tess was born and raised in Chicago. She attended the Chicago Waldorf School’s Early Childhood program where everything was covered in rainbow scarves. Seriously, everything. She then was homeschooled, where she wore ill-fitting overalls and questioned authority. In the sixth grade she decided she was done with alternative education and wanted to get serious, so naturally enrolled in the Sunflower School. The school was parent run, but in retrospect she wonders if she would have been better prepared for selective enrollment high school had it actually been run by sunflowers. From a young age she has enjoyed the performing arts, particularly acting. In high school she starred in numerous plays and musicals including The Laramie Project, Much Ado About Nothing, High School Musical, and the Wiz. She was a member of the Chicago Children’s Choir where she learned music theory of which she has since retained very little. In recent years, Tess started taking stand up comedy and songwriting classes. She now writes and performs her own stand up and musical comedy. Tess is currently a student at Columbia College Chicago where she is majoring in Theatre with a concentration in Comedy Writing and Performance. Tess’s ultimate goal, other than riding around on a dragon thingy like in the movie Avatar, is to professionally write and perform stand up and musical comedy. She believes that comedy is an effective vehicle for impacting social change. A comedic environment allows an audience to be entertained while being subtly confronted with controversial topics they might otherwise be unwilling to consider. *jumps out from behind the curtain wearing goggles and a towel as a cape* I WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE WITH MY COMEDY FOR SOCIAL CHANGE USING COMEDY IN THE FUTURE! *cue horses and trumpet*
Tess is like, magic you guys. Come hear her this Sunday at Great Lakes Tattoo, 1148 W. Grand Avenue. Stories start at 8pm, BYOB, FREE, and AWESOME!
