Meet our readers: Paul Dailing

Paul is back! Mister Dailing, as we refer to him around here, performed at one of our early shows at Swim Cafe, and is back again for this month’s show at Great Lakes Tattoo.

Paul Dailing is the creator of 1,001 Chicago Afternoons, a blog collecting 1,001 true stories of modern life in Chicago. It’s based on and written in the style of a 1920s column in the Chicago Daily News. The project won a Peter Lisagor Award for Exemplary Journalism for “Best Continuing Blog, Independent” for 2013.

Through the blog, Dailing has read at or appeared on tons of places.

  • The most impressive-sounding: WBEZ’s “Afternoon Shift,” the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s Word Weekend and the University of Chicago’s Studs Terkel festival
  • The most fun: Your Chicago Podcast, the Paper Machete, Story Lab Chicago, the South Side Weekly Lit Issue Release Party and, of course, That’s All She Wrote

He also co-organizes the Chi Lit reading series with Anthology of Chicago.

He lives in Noble Square with a lady, too many books and a typewriter he never uses.

Show happens this Sunday, September 14, at Great Lakes Tattoo (1148 W. Grand Ave.) Pleasant House Bakery will be there with a food truck full of savory pies at 7pm, stories start at 8pm. BYOB and FREE.

Paul Dailing, left, and someone else who we don’t know, but are certain is a wonderful person.
